Video Penuh Debat Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim VS Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek

July 16th, 2008

I watched the delayed live telecast of the debate between Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek just now on TV3.

I’m now looking for the full video from the internet. If I’m not mistaken, TV3 said it’ll be on their website http://www.tv3.com.my but I can’t seem to find it. Perhaps, they have not uploaded it on the web yet?

Anyway, I think it’s fair to say that Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek did exceptionally well, considering Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is an amazing orator.

I might comment on the debate in a bit.

Debat diantara Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Datuk Ahmad Shabery.
Manakala si pencacai Paklah ” Datuk Ahmad Shabery ” pulak merapu-rapu umpama lidah bercabang menceritakan kisah-kisah dongeng kerajaan sekarang membantu rakyat lepas minyak naik. Lain soalan ditanya lain jawapan merapu yang diberi. Tapi penakut nak berdebat dengan Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Mengunakan Shabery sebagai ujian berdepan Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yang sememangnya berjuang demi RAKYAT MALAYSIA. Hidup Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim… semoga perjuangan anda sampai kemuncaknya penumbangan kerajaan BN….

p/s : kepada En.Shabery, lain kali ikut kata telunjuk orang lama. otai UMNO dah kata jangan… jangan dijolok sarang tebuan.. kan dah bengkak muka…

Pada pendapat saya, “hands down” Datuk Shabery Cheek menang debat malam tadi.

Haha I can’t wait for your comment on the debate! I was reading some blogs and some blog comments about how Datuk Shabery kept making personal attacks but honestly, imo, THAT ISN’T THE POINT. DS Anwar kept slipping in self-trumpeting and campaign taglines along the lines of ‘turunkan harga minyak ESOK’ too, but I think most people in the blogosphere are too riled up about BN to give them a speaking chance.

Imo both speakers did have valid points, though both parties could have handles themselves more professionally- in Datuk Shabery’s case, yes, he should have kept down the personal attacks.

However he did make some good points (i.e. whose suffering does the subsidy actually alleviate? those who need it or those who don’t? simple economics at work here!). I think that really is food for thought! I cannot deny that the price hike is a burden, but surely there are better, more effective ways to overcome it.

Personally I think what Datuk Shabery lacked was proper elaboration and substantiation. He handled his points in a very hit-and-run manner- hover around the edges of an argument, then launch into a personal attack. Which is unwise, given that his position his more vulnerable then DS Anwar’s, as he is on the defensive.

DS Anwar has a point, that perhaps the hike was too much, (I can’t say for sure, I’m happy to admit I’m rather ignorant in these matters), but it was pretty obvious how he kept pandering to the whims of the watchful public by emphasising and reemphasising on ‘rakyat’ and ’suffering’ and ‘nelayan’ and ‘petani’, and suggesting such easy-to-say short term measures- cutting down reserves and etc. when the feasibility is very debatable.

And I’m wondering, and cannot for the life of me figure out, WHY isn’t there a single economist in the country who can step forward and explain in detail, the cons of an ongoing petrol subsidy! Ours is already one of the highest in the world.

Sigh I am glad I found you in the blogosphere, Nadlique. Haha. I wanted to comment about this on my blog too but I decided against it because, well, I don’t want to attract unwanted attention and have all these young smart-aleck readers (who are ahem actually probably older than me) slam me for reasons I don’t agree with. I’ll just have my blood boil!! Grr.

Alright sorry for this ranty comment! Do correct me wherever you think I’m wrong!

    (:

Kita orang melayu x payah berbalah sesama sendiri. Orang cina duk tepuk tangan kat kita. Melayu jangan mudah lupa lagi.
