One should not have high expectations

October 21st, 2009

Last semester at uni, a lecturer gave one of the silliest statements I’ve ever heard in my entire life.

According to her, one ’should not have high expectations’. One should ‘lower their expectations’ so as not to get ‘disappointed’.

What in the world??? What a way to educate your students huh?

I’m going to stay out of it this time and let Les Brown argue on my behalf. Have a look at the video below.

Oh, for the record, I’m against my lecturer’s beliefs with every single fiber of my being. I believe that one should always challenge the status quo and improve oneself. Having high expectations of oneself and taking risks are parts of living a life.

By the way, talking about disappointments, expectations, and risks, watch another video below.

I guess for those who want to be safer, staying in the middle of the spectrum is logical but as per risk tolerance level of the individual.Hence, the enterprising will have more risk appetites to notch up the expectations.

    Yes, that is true.

But it’s not right for a teacher to generalise and tell his/her students to not imagine, dream, and have high objectives in life.
