ANDA Coin, Note & Stamp Show 2008: Postage Stamps Acquisitions (Penny Black, Sarawak, and Malaya Straits Settlement)

As promised, here are some of the items I purchased from the ANDA Coin, Note & Stamp Show.

This entry will be dedicated to stamps.

First up, the word’s first adhesive postage stamp called the Penny Black. It was issued on the 1st of May 1840. So, that makes the stamp about 168 years old! I’ve been wanting to get the Penny Black for so long now and finally, I own one. Nice piece eh?

My other stamp purchases were made with the theme of Malaya/Malaysia in mind.

Here’s Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation stamp dated 2nd June 1953.

Next are two stamps of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.

Another three stamps of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother and a close-up view of one of the stamps.

Up next are 1935 Straits Settlements stamps bearing the image of King George V. I also included a close-up view of one of the stamps.

I also bought a set of Sarawak stamps bearing the images of the three Brookes. Have a look at the view up close as well.

I did get a few of the more recent Malaysian stamps. Here they are:

Stay tuned for coins and banknotes pictures 🙂

  1. i was a philatelist… lama dolu

  2. Hehe. It’s really hard to have people be interested in stamps nowadays. Especially the young ones. It’s more fun playing with Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii.

  3. Yeah, my grandma pasted down her stamps to my kids and they didn’t know what to do with them …

  4. Well, they can always pass them to me. I promise I’ll treasure them! Hehe 😛

  5. Good pictures and well kept items.
Really enjoy seeing these and thank you.

  6. The postmark on the three pieces of Straits Settlements are nice, luckily it was stamped with thin rubber chop, not those thick rubber which will,of course worsen the stamp.

  7. Yup, you’re right.

Do you collect stamps as well?
