Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim: Countdown to the Government Change on the 16th September?

So, what do you guys think? Will 16th September materialise? Will we have a new government?

In my honest opinion, I don’t think it will happen. Even if it did, to me, that’s not democracy in action. That’s just a bunch of politicians defecting. However, if indeed we’ll have a new government come 16th September 2008, I do hope it’ll be a change for the better, not the worse.

Whatever it is, I hope Malaysia’s financial markets won’t be affected much further. It seems, the political instability we’re having in Malaysia is one contributing factor to the volatility we’re seeing. Now, don’t get me wrong. Volatile conditions has been interesting and was treated as a platform for me to learn and discover myself. I have been performing pretty alright on the trading front, just not investing.  Positive returns for my trading equity but deep in the red for my investment capital. Wouldn’t it be great if roses are red, skies are blue, and everything in the world is fine for investors and traders again?

Experts can say a lot of things about Malaysia’s prospects and whatnots but at the end of the day, all that do not matter. What matters is investor’s perception. You can have brilliant prospects but if it’s not in line with the market, you’re nowhere.

Boy of boy, did I pick the right time to get serious with my investments in Malaysia.

How I wish I could short the Malaysian market. Well, bleh.

Anyway, whatever happens, we soldier on. Hang in there folks. Hang in there.

  1. u buying aussie dollars? selling ringgit?
seems like this thing will drag on and on til pak lah goes..

    3 scenarios..
    1. dec umno internal coup. will econ/malaysia better?
do u believe umno with najib will be good enuff?

    2. sept bn implosion. lots of uncertainty.. whether we get a strong government or a quickie(snap election within 6-12 month- anwar is likely to seek a strong mandate before econ goes worse!)

    3. pak lah muddles along until 2010 then hands it to najib. IMO worse case scenario- too many short term uncertainties.. All government activities suspended due to too much politics(BN v BN, PR v BN, Umno v Umno). Means the business comunity will hold back spending, investors lose confidence and pak lah loots the treasury for retirement home in aus..

my personal fave is 2. but betting mind favours 1.
    just my 2 pences worth
    wat do u think?

  2. dlm politik knkadang yg tak logic tu jadi logic.
hm..so far saya pun mcm kurang pecaya boleh bentuk dlm masa tedekat..
tapi still la..siapa tahu. hehe..anyway, if it’s true, i’m hoping for the better government..yeahh better for the change, not for the worse.

  3. (Outsider’s view) Even if it is undemocratic, having a majority defect to Anwar presents a rare opportunity to open up the national government. Over the past many years there has been a monopoly of a single coalition (UMNO, if I understand correctly). It has been demonstrated repeatedly that long-term monopolies become inefficient and unresponsive.

  4. We need to remember one thing. In the last election, the mandate was given to the current government (i.e. Barisan Nasional). Granted, they were denied the two third majority, but they still won nevertheless. So, toppling the government through the way of defecting parliamentary members is the same as denying the people’s voice.

  5. do u think it is still happening?

  7. najibulah says:

seems like najibullah revolution has begun!

    pak lah is dead!

    long live najib!

  8. why does he need so long to go?
    only make econ worse!

najib alreadi finance minister. wat is the reason for pak lah stayin? so kj can be youth leader?
