Keretaku kecil hati agaknya

It was an eventful week last week for my car. Mungkin dia kecil hati sebab aku panggil dia Kuda Tua.

Here are the problems that I had with my car last week:

1. Punctured rear tyre.

2. Had to change the headlight bulb.

3. On the same day as (1) and (2), the rear power window won’t work anymore and the window just slides down whenever I drive. Had to use some packaging tape to keep the window from sliding down.

4. Car servicing is due. Have to send her in before more problems surface.

Moral of the story: I have to treat her better from now on. Give her a bath more often or something like that. Dia sudah banyak berjasa untukku.

P.S. A very big thank you to Mr. Ed for helping me last week with the tyre. Cheers mate!

Is studying overseas and at the same time spending so much money worth it?

It is an understood perception in the Malaysian society that studying overseas is something “very important” in securing a bright and high-paying future, career wise.

How far is this true?

Here are some of my observations from my time in Australia.

It’s my fifth year of being here now. I started with a dual degree of Law (Gosh, how I miss telling people that I’m doing Law. Hehe.) and Commerce (Accounting). I’ve since dropped law and focusing on accounting alone. Planning to get back to Law later on though. Maybe part-time, after I’ve settled down and everything.

Anyway, back to my observations 😛

The two B’s in Trading (Equities, Derivatives)

I’m not too sure whether I got this from a book or I thought of it myself. Anyhow, in trading, I believe that you need to possess the two B’s. What are they? Well, they are:

1. You need to be BOLD

Being bold is indeed very important in trading. You need to be able to make out what’s happening with the market, be if you’re a believer in fundamental analysis or technical analysis. Often also, you need to make split second decisions.

2. You need to have BALLS

Being gutsy is also very important. Without this quality, you’ll freeze in front of the monitor, I promise you that. Plus, you need a lot of bravery to see your trading money whipsawing every other day.

So, if you’re a trader out there, do you possess these two qualities? As for me, I still need to do a heaps of work in expanding my BOLDNESS and enlarging my BALLS, so to speak 😉

Oprah Winfrey’s Inspiring Speech (Stanford University 2008 Commencement Address)

Previously, I posted the video of Steve Jobs’ inspiring speech.

Now, listen to Oprah Winfrey’s speech from 2008. It’s 30 minutes long, but it’s also most definitely worth your time.

Unemployment exists in Australia? Huh? Really?

I was talking to a person the other day and he asked me about my plans after graduation. I then replied:

“Oh, perhaps I’ll return to Malaysia after uni. Maybe I won’t apply for the permanent residency. You know, it seems really hard to get a job in Australia these days. Even Rio Tinto (a mining company) laid off hundreds of their people a few days ago. Unemployment rate is well through the roof right now. I don’t think I’ll be able to get a job here”.

To which he replied:

“Huh?? Unemployment exists in Australia??”.

I was gobsmacked…….

Moral of the story: Watch more TV 🙂

The end.

Steve Jobs’ Inspiring Speech (Stanford University 2005 Commencement Address)

Thanks to Boo for introducing this very inspiring video to me. It’s the video from YouTube of Steve Jobs’ (Apple Computers & Pixar Animation Studios) 2005 Stanford University Graduation Commencement Address/Speech.

I certainly could relate to pretty much 90% of what was said by Steve Jobs (besides the death part of course).

It’s a 15-minute video, so if you’ve got some time to spare, please watch it. It’s worth your time.

Anyway, below’s the video.

Suri Cruise’s million-dollar education regime (Tom Cruise’s Daughter)

I heard in the morning talk show yesterday about how Tom Cruise is spending $1 million on his two-year-old daughter’s early education. Here’s also the news article.

She’s got a tutor to teach her French and Spanish once a week. On top of that, she also does ballet, tap, and modern dance lesson for hours nearly every day. Oh, not to forget, gymnastic lessons and soccer.

Apparently, piano and violin lessons are on the drawboard as well.

Being public figures like Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, I’m sure many people out there have opinions on this issue.

What do you guys reckon? Is it too much for a 2-year-old to handle? How much is too much anyway?

Pursuit of Happyness

Relating to my previous post of ‘When should I start investing? When should I launch my business’, here’s a conversation between the father and the son from the movie Pursuit of Happyness. It sums up the article perfectly.

Christopher Gardner: Hey. Don’t ever let somebody tell you… You can’t do something. Not even me. All right?

Christopher: All right.

Christopher Gardner: You got a dream… You gotta protect it. People can’t do somethin’ themselves, they wanna tell you you can’t do it. If you want somethin’, go get it. Period.

The R.A.H.M.A.N. Prime Ministers of Malaysia (Pattern?)

I’ve been reading in a number of blogs talking about this. Seems like the prime ministership in Malaysia follows this pattern here >> R.A.H.M.A.N.

1. R – Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Alhaj
2. A – Tun Abdul Razak bin Haji Dato’ Hussein Al-Haj
3. H – Tun Hussein Onn
4. M – Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad
5. A – Tun Abdullah bin Haji Ahmad Badawi
6. N – Dato’ Seri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak

It was quite a debate on who’s expected to be the sixth one. Nik Aziz or Najib. Hehehe.

Interesting huh? 😀

Who started this theory anyway? Anybody knows?

Should I change my blog theme?

I have been using the current theme since the blog came into existence close to 2 years ago. I am starting to get bored of the blue bird at the top there.

Should I change to a new one? Hmmm…

For those who have changed blog themes before, how easy was it to change over everything?

I’ve made some significant changes to the current theme and to transport that over to the new one will take a pretty long time I suppose. The word lazy comes to mind 😀

Anyway, I’ll scout for some nice blog themes first.
