Why are you doing STPM? A Levels? Foundation Studies? Diploma? International Baccaulerate (IB)? Ausmat? SAM? Which one is better?

For Malaysians, there are so many options after high school. Talking about tertiary education, there are so many pathways out there. Some of them are:

1. Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM)
2. A Levels
3. Pre-U Foundation Studies
4. Diploma
5. International Baccalaureate (IB)
6. Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT)
7. South Australian Matriculation (SAM)

The question is, which one is better? Better in terms of quality (i.e. which one prepares you better) as well as which one opens up more opportunities later on.

Before university, I did my foundation studies in a Malaysian college. After that, I applied into a university in Australia and got accepted into its dual degree in Bachelor of Laws & Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) program.

However, if I was better informed back then, perhaps I would’ve done things differently. At the moment, I actually see merits in A Levels and Diploma. It seems like with these two, your options of what to do later on is much wider. Correct me if I’m wrong though.

Anyway, what do you guys think? Which one is better in your eyes?

Emm somehow we can’t really decide which one is better over another, in terms of preparing yourself to the real world. Maybe it also depends on where u want to further study and what u r gonna do. Like as for me, in some sense doing International Baccaulaureate for 2 years and doing Petroleum Engineering in US can be seen as wasting time because i didnt get that much transfer credit (not even to save 1 semester). But somehow, I guess it is also being helpful indirectly. By doing Extended Essay (EE) and other stuff in MARA College Banting, helped me and my other friends to be on top 5 of Petroleum Engineering Department here. We have stronger basic than the rest, but we are also older than them. Haha.. There is also few other students who have done preparation program in INTI College before coming here, but they r private. So far, they are average student. But we can’t say they are not well prepared in INTI because of the pre U program that they are doing. There are so many other factors to be considered. I guess as long as u study hard, acquired good skills, have good networking, pray to God for help, success will always be with u. Those who work for it, is the one that gonna get the repay.

    • Tapi, kalau fikir balik, kalau start dari Pre-U, kalau nak tukar course esok-esok susah sebab Pre-U tu dah specialise sgt dgn course yg kita akan buat. Kalau macam IB, Diploma, A-Levels, saya rasa tak. Sijil IB, Diploma, atau A-Levels memang dah laku seadanya. Lepas tu pilihan pun banyak nanti. Kata lah tak suka course ke apa, senang sikit nak tukar, kan?

  2. i urgently want to know which is better to dowhether matriculation, stpm,a levels, or foundation before studying medical doctor………………………..
