CPL/IR and ATPL as my Postgraduate Studies

There are a few who asked me why am I embarking on my flight training and aren’t I too old for it.

Well, to me, it makes a lot of sense. For one, I love everything about flying and the aviation industry. Secondly, there’s no such thing as being too old to achieve your dreams. Plus, I’m only 23 right now.

There were also those few who asked me, what’s the use of my accounting degree then?

My explanation is usually this. Not only do I want to fly, I would also like to be involved in the management side of things. Not only that, I plan to have my own business one day. At least, I have some background in business and not just the technical side of things.

Also, to put that into perspective, you’d see others doing Masters and PhDs as part of their postgraduate studies. Well, I see CPL/IR + ATPL as my Masters studies. For others who asked whether I’ll be doing any postgraduate studies after my bachelor’s degree, indeed I am.

For those who do not know:

CPL = Commercial Pilot’s License

IR = Instrument Rating

ATPL = Airline Transport Pilot’s License

  1. hi!
    its okay to pursue what you dream of doing. You just need to get a sponsor for you to get your license. What you want to do here is not possible just perhaps the money factor is. A schoolmate of mine got his degree in accounting if I’m not mistaken but I think he didnt want to work in that field he took up flying lessons and now he is attach to an ‘orange’ low cost carrier. He is 28 by now. So you are quite young and that shouldnt stop you to chase what you dream of doing. Don’t let it be just a dream.

    • Hi there! 🙂

      I am adamant in achieving my dream. I’ll be taking up a loan next year to fund my training. So, is your friend enjoying flying for Firefly? 😀

  2. Hi Nadlique,

    Good blog you have here. I’m a MSc graduate in engineering field. After working for 2 years, I find that I am not passionate about my job, that I am just not into the field.

    Aviation industry is always my passion. Being a pilot is always my dream. I wish to know how you actually make it for that, where you actually from a totally different field previously. That’s not easy to make such move. I have always wanted to do that. It is just I am always restricted by the lack of courage. Plus, I do not know anything I need to do to make that happens, including whether my qualification is possible for me to take up pilot training courses, whereabout training institute in Malaysia and also the funding/loan for the course, etc. Do you mind telling me details of those or probably any websites/links where I can follow to obtain such info? Thanks in advance!
